Trials

This is packing week. Knowing that we will be closing on our new home soon, there is a frantic feeling of all of the tasks that have not yet been done. One of these tasks is packing our belongings. What a reflective task! Every item that goes into the box has an origin, a story, and a thought behind it. Do I keep it, throw it, sell it, or give it away? Is it important, worthless, and why did I even buy it in the first place?

I have been impressed with one thought as I tackle this task this week:Why do I only do this when I have to? It seems only when we are faced with the pressing tasks that we are reflective and thoughtful. What if I made this an everyday occurance whether it was making a purchase or a decision. When faced with a person, place or thing I should ask myself, is this something I should be doing, buying or deciding on? Is it important, worthless, and Godly? Should I even be here in the first place?

" And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you." Philippians 4:7-9 (KJV)
